DIY - Do it Yourself Appliance Repair Tips and FAQs.

Always empty everything out of your clothes pockets! Why? Because anything that gets into the water pump or anywhere else through the drum is going to clog, break, scratch, etc... Before loading your washing machine, it is very important to check all the clothes pockets. Leaving items like coins, nails, screws, pens, etc., in your pockets, can damage your clothes and your machine. It is not uncommon for drain pumps to fail prematurely because of a foreign object getting stuck in the impeller. A forgotten fountain pen can destroy your favorite shirt. Never overload your washing machine!

It is very frequent for clothes dryer to build up lint in the interior and eventually catch fire. Most of the time the lint burns out and you are left with a fiery smell in the laundry area and occasionally damage to your dryer. There's constantly a chance that the flames will spread and catch your home on fire! It happens. The majority people think that if they clean their lint screen faithfully, they should be ok. Not True! The Lint always gets passed the lint screen and builds up inside the dryer. Most dryers today are not easily reachable for the homeowner to clean out. My advise to you: Any time you have an appliance technician out for any repair, ask him to clean out your home Vent.

If nothing electrical works, check the circuit breaker at the service panel. Verify that the range's electrical plug is solidly in its receptacle. If the clicker won't ignite a surface burner, the small ignition holes on the side of the burner may be clogged. Clear them with it toothpick. Note that surface burners can be lit with a match even when the power is out. If the surface burners work, but the oven will neither bake nor broil, the clock may be set for self-cleaning or timed baking. If you are having an issue with your Stove-such as burners don't come on or you can smell gas, or if you have any other problem with your Gas Stove, you need professional help from a repair technician.

Check for the problem and see if it is Electrical, Water Malfunction, Drainage Malfunction. These are the most frequent problems that can come to your dishwasher. If any part of the dishwasher is not functioning because of an internal fault or the electrical circuit has a problem, dishwasher repair manuals recommend calling in a technician as this problem cannot be tackled at home with bare hands.

The water shut-off valve under the sink should be on for the smooth working of the dishwasher. Check this valve and the spray arms and see if unclogging and cleaning them is necessary. The water temperature must also be at least 120°F and you should check that. When water is hard, a film gathers on the dishes and in this case, I would recommend the use of a dishwasher cleaner. A quality cleaner like Dishwasher Magic or Glass Magic will easily do the trick.

First check the air gap of the sink and clear it if needed. Check the drain hose and clean it also. Replace the drive belt in the process of dishwasher repair, in case it uses a pump that is malfunctioning now. How to repair dishwasher that has a drain impeller, broken at the shaft or the blades is by replacing the broken impeller. The drain solenoid should also be cleaned while dishwasher repairing. Finally, if the motor or wash timer of the dishwasher is malfunctioning, it is obvious that the part needs to be replaced.
